What Is God's Personality Type?

Friday, November 14, 2008   12:05 AM

I came across this article from the Chicago Tribune. Here's how the article describes the 16-type characteristics:

E vs. I: Extroverts receive energy from people. Introverts love their solitude.

S vs. N: Sensory folks pay attention to the sensory details around them. Intuitive people tend to read between the lines or behind the eyes--as in what's really going on inside others' heads.

F vs. T: Feeling folks base decisions on who they will make people feel. Thinkers make choices depending on what’s right or wrong.

P vs. J: Perceivers fly by the seat of their pants. Judgers are punctual and organized.

In short, I think God is too big to fit into a personality test modeled onto humans, but it's interesting to break it down.

(This is pretty much what I left in comment to the article.)

I don't think God is E or I, because both of those terms hinge on human experience, in their loosest application, each term might apply equally. Could a Triune God exist in solitude, or does God receive energy from an external source? Jesus often withdrew from the people into solitude, but just as often spoke to the crowds and interacted with many different people.

God is both S and N, he senses everything to its minutest detail, and well, God is the epitome of intuition.

God is also both F and T. God definitely makes choices based on what is right or wrong, but he is also moved to mercy and compassion based on how people feel.

God is simultaneously P and J. God doesn't think the same way we do, but is able to perceive while judging, to act immediately already knowing every possible implications of every action - with purpose, whether carefully and patiently timed, or unrestrained and without pause - however God may see fit.

It's been mentioned that we will define God according to our own perceptions of God (accurate or not) as well as that we might tend to define God's personality similarly to our own, but that would be dwelling on only part of God's nature. We Christians know that we were created in God's image, and that is why God encompasses many of these traits, because the traits we have individually are just a part of the fullness of God.

Veterans Day

Wednesday, November 12, 2008   11:48 PM

As yesterday was Veterans Day I'm reminded of one of my favorite movies "Saving Private Ryan." If this movie is at all realistic or accurate, and I hear it is, that's pretty insane. It's just crazy that young men about my age left their families and friends to face things more terrifying and gruesome then humans should ever have to experience, and most of them did this voluntarily. Granted they went to protect freedom, and to stop the death and oppression of millions of men women and children; however the mindset and strength that it must have taken to do such things is incredible. I honestly don't know if personally I possess that kind of courage, although I suppose it's impossible to say for sure until you actually have to make that kind of choice. I am thankful my generation hasn't lived through such times, although that's not to take anything away from the men and women serving in the armed forces now. So, we solute you veterans, God bless you for standing up for what is right.

So check this out, if you don't know about this already I am telling you right now. This website is EXTREMELY helpful and easy to use. If you don't like to read you can listen to the bible, you can look up things if you don't know where they're located, you can read passage in any translation, and they even have a verse of the day thing you can post on your myspace if you want. I can't get it to post on our website but if you want to check it out go to...

This isn't the verse of the day but I really like it. It reminds me that we always have someone who loves us, despite the fact that we may feel otherwise at various times. God bless.
38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. -Romans 8:38-39

I froze my brain
To explain
All the sickness that I felt
Then let it melt
Into a puddle at my feet
It was so neat
To complete
Such a process thoughtless
Consciousness so deep
I’ll just sleep and
Tomorrow things will change…

Or will they stay the same?

Sincerely felt

Because John Stole My Ideas...

Monday, October 27, 2008   5:15 PM

I'll talk about something else, mostly.
1. Don't ever get your girlfriend a puppy. They chew on everything and make your house smell like urine.
2. Don't eat old food from the back of the refrigerator. You'll probably be fine (one time I ate 3 week old Chili - it was good) but still not recommended.
3. Don't vote in the upcoming election because the ideas that have been put into your head are mostly lies and there is no way to know what's really true.
4. Don't smoke crack, I hear it's bad for you.
5. Don't be anybody but yourself because eventually everyone will see right through it.
6. Don't go as The Joker for Halloween because chances are everyone else will too.
7. Don't watch porn, it destroys your mind and purity (even though I know everyone wants to watch it).
8. Don't unplug all the smoke detectors in your house even if they go off when your cooking.
9. Don't put plastic (or metal) in the microwave, it gives you cancer - but what doesn't these days; and metal sparks or blows up.
10. Don't run with scissors with the sharp end pointed toward you, always hold stabby end down.

Vote or DIE!

Thursday, October 23, 2008   6:25 PM

So, I'm having a bit of a patriotic dilemma. I love this country (America, to clarify for our non-American readers) or at least, the idea of this country based on something as awesome as the constitution. This election season, I'm not at all motivated to exercise my right to vote. What choice do I have? I don't like my options: 1) vote for third party candidate who would actually do some good, but my vote for any candidate not represented in the media is a rather pointless one; 2) vote for the republican candidate because of the one important issue to me which McCain/Palin will probably uphold, and which Obama/Biden will be very centerist about; 3) vote for the guy who wants to change a bunch of change until it changes into change - I think he's naive if he believes he can effectively stand up to the beaurocracy in Washington, the lobbyists, the senators and representatives who weigh down legislation with earmarked spending. I do like option 4) hit the reset button; start fresh with checks and balances that keep the people in control of their own government, but that requires revolution. I'm not big on violence outside of video games and movies, so I don't know how to go about revolution without drawing any blood.

Now, about options 1 and 2. Is anyone really voting for either candidate, or are we voting for the VP candidates? Seriously, McCain could die of old age at any point while in office, and let's face it, there are a lot of crazy people with guns who don't want a non-white president in office, if any of those racists decide to get organized, Obama's term could be very short indeed. Who really likes either of the VP candidates, I mean other than the people who go ga-ga over soccer moms with guns?

Oh, here's a fun one! What makes any candidate think they can fix the economy? I live in Michigan, where the economy has been virtually destroyed by the lack of ability of the Detroit motor companies to make a car that anyone other than an American would want to buy, and mostly only Americans in states with automaker-dependant economies.

I think the problem - the overlying theme of inefficacy - is that we as a society prefer to treat the symptoms instead of getting to the cause of the problem and fixing it at the source. Headaches aren't caused by a lack of asprin, so you can't fix headaches with asprin, you just trick your brain into thinking everything's fine, but it's not, because the problem is still there. Just like drugs, treating the symptoms of our nation's problems, and not fixing the causes, may alleviate the symptoms temporarily, but there are going to be some side effects. So, who's ready to be test subjects!?

In summary, Vote or DIE!!! I'm bringing my D&D gaming dice with me into the booth, so if I don't cast a vote, I can cast a die.

Peace out homies!

Never be bought, Never be sold

So I just thought I'd write a little for fun. Hi I'm jaykub I'm an over average white male and I enjoy banging violently on a guitar and screaming into a microphone. As a day job I work at the second largest retailer in the world; Target. I would love to quit that job and travel around and see every one's shining faces and connect with other artists and genuinely cool people. I want to grow as a band but I also don't want it to become a business. When music becomes a business and we have to meet quotas and deadlines than it is no longer creative art but just another crappy imitation of it. So with that in mind I've been calling Pepsi and Nabisco and Wall-mart to get sponsorships. My dream is to one day wear a Wall-mart shirt to every gig and get paid the big bucks to do so. (just lying)

I'd rather be dead than cool...
I don't know why.

Love,
jerkub

Johan's Current Top Ten Albums

Thursday, October 9, 2008   6:44 PM

Much like Jake's, mine are subject to change, but maybe not quite as often.

This album might just be forever on the list:
1. Animals by Pink Floyd

Key track: Dogs
I love this album. It's epic, smooth, lyrical, and progressive. It definitely showcases Pink Floyd's Production Prowess.

2. Say Hello to Sunshine by Finch

Key tracks: Ink, Ravenous
One of the few bands I've listened to that gets better after the first album. This album seems to rebel against standard rock. It's got time changes left n right, key changes, the vocalist employs various techniques, and the lyrics are nice n poetic.

3. Robot Hive / Exodus by Clutch

Key tracks: Burning Beard, 10001110101

I <3 Clutch. It's bluesy rock with lyrics that make you go "huh?" There are plenty of people devoted to figuring out these highly cryptic messages, I'm not one of them.

4. About a Burning Fire by Blindside

Key tracks: Across Waters Again, Follow You Down

Although Silence is a more congruous album to me, this one holds my attention right now. Dude's voice is just amazing.

5. Juturna by Circa Survive

Key track: We're All Thieves

Circa Survive is kind of like Mars Volta without all the super spacey electro-jazz odysseys.

6. Demure by Engine Down

Key tracks: Second of February, Songbird

Just listen to it.

7. Distorted Lullabies by Ours

Key tracks: Fallen Souls, Drowning

Melodic rock with amazing vocals and songwriting. I saw this band live, and I don't usually sing along at a show, but this guy had me singing along to songs I didn't even know all the words to. Intense.

8. Skindive by Skindive

Key tracks: Swallow, Tranquilizer

Irish Electro/rock - There really aren't enough good rock bands with female vox. . . unless you count the likes of avril lavigne and katie perry, which I don't.

9. Kid A by Radiohead

Key tracks: all of them

I listened to this album on my friend's several-thousand dollar speakers and whoa, it came alive. I heard things I never heard before listening to this album. We've got heads on sticks, you've got ventriloquists.

Last, but definitely not least

10. Future Perfect by Autolux

Key tracks: Subzero Fun, but really all of them

Subzero Fun captured my attention, but the rest are just as quality. If you only check out one new album from this list, make it Future Perfect.

Labels: , , ,

What's happening

Just thought I'd update everybody who is interested on what's going on w/The Luminous. We are working on a couple new songs which when finished will be around 11 I think. We would like to record a full length in the near future but would really prefer to do so with a good producer who has and idea or vision for what we are trying to do. We will be doing as many regional shows as we can for the next couple months, and are planning on heading out west this January for the NAMM convention. We would love to tour our way out there but may not have the money so that's up in the air right now. Check back for updates. Thanks for reading. Love.
